Obituary of Sidney D. Franklin

Mr. Sidney Dale Franklin, age 56, of Banner Elk,died Monday morning at Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte. Born in Buncombe County, March 2, 1951, he was a son of Boyd Franklin and JoAnn McGee Franklin. Dale was a well known builder and developer. He fought the good fight. Surviving are his wife, Kimberly Barr Franklin of Banner Elk, two sons; Matthew Franklin and wife Burlene of Banner Elk, and Jason Cook and wife Mindy of Vilas, four grandchildren; Cole and Peyton Franklin and Eva and Riley Cook, one step daughter; Katie Kragiel of Banner Elk, his mother, JoAnn Franklin of Sugar Mountain, his father Boyd Franklin of Foscoe, one sister, Leigh Greene of Lake Wiley, SC, his mother-in-law, Mary Barr of West Jefferson, one sister-in-law, Ellen Russell and husband Raeford of Foscoe, one brother-in-law, Randy Barr and wife Kay of Grove City, Ohio, and his step mother-in-law, Ann Barr of Blowing Rock, three nieces; Dakota Russell, Stephanie Barr and Tesia Early. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marion Elizabeth Franklin. Memorial services for Mr. Sidney Dale Franklin will be conducted Thursday evening at 6 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Randy Barr, Rev. Richard Holshouser and Rev. John Page. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 4 o'clock until 6 o'clock prior to the service at Austin and Barnes Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Watauga County Habitat for Humanity, Post Office Box 33 DTS, Boone, NC 28607 or to Avery County Habitat for Humanity, Post Office Box 1016, Newland, NC 28657.
