Obituary of Franklin D. Norris

Franklin Dan Norris, age 74, of Highway 421 North, Vilas, died Saturday morning, June 5, 2010 at the Johnson City Medical Center in Tennessee. He was born August 4, 1935 in Watauga County to Clifford Dewitt and Bessie Reece Norris. Sergeant Norris served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp, followed by 18 years in the National Guard. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Eastern Star. Franklin dearly loved his family and his church, Advent Christian Church. Mr. Norris is survived by his wife of 46 years, June Knipl Norris; two sons, Martin Eugene Norris and wife, Lisa, of Lenoir, and Marcus Berry Norris and wife, Sarah, of Hubbard, Texas; five grandchildren; and one sister, Marie Greer and husband, Ralph, of Zionville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Norma Lee Norris. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning, June 8th at 11 o'clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Gordon Noble. The body will lie in state at the chapel from 10 until 11 o'clock. Burial with Masonic and Military rites will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Austin & Barnes. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Boone Advent Christian Church Sound System Fund, in care of Joyce Sherrill, 413 Shady Bark Lane, Boone, NC 28607.
