Obituary of Willa Rae Stanberry

Willa Rae Stanberry, age 85, of Clyde Williams Drive, Boone, died Thursday afternoon, March 18, 2010 at Watauga Medical Center. She was born May 31, 1924 in Swain County to Samuel Gordon and Martha Cable Monteith. Mrs. Stanberry was a member of Meat Camp Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bill Stanberry; one daughter, Valerie Kuykendall and her husband Dwayne, of Canton; two grandchildren, William Kuykendall of Cullowhee and Anna Kuykendall of Canton; and two sisters, Joeretta Moon and husband Hugh of Sylva and Inez Smith of Spartanburg, SC. A number of nieces, nephews and cousin also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl, Olin, Harold 'Red' and Roger Monteith. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, March 21, 2010 at 3 o'clock at Meat Camp Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Mike Townsend and Rev. Herbert McCoy. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 until 3 o'clock, one hour prior to services, at the Church. Burial will follow in the Meat Camp Baptist Church Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Watauga County Project on Aging, 132 Poplar Grove Connector, Suite A, Boone, or to Hospice of Avery County, 351 Mitchell Street, Newland, NC 28657. The family wishes to especially thank the Watauga County Project on Aging, Hospice of Avery County, Life Care of Banner Elk, and special caregivers, Mary Isaacs and Kim Munday.
