Obituary of Linnie F. Whittington

Democrat Mr. Linnie Frederick Whittington, age 84, of Junaluska Road, Boone, NC died Monday, December 21, 2009 at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation. Born March 12, 1925 in Vilas, to the late John and Texie Shearer Whittington he was a member of the Boone Mennonite Brethren Church where he had served as a Sunday school teacher for a number of years. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. Mr. Whittington retired with twenty years of service to First Union Bank (currently Wachovia Bank and formerly Northwestern Bank). Surviving are his wife, Barbara Jackson Whittington of the home; one daughter, Donna Whittington of Boone; two sons: Terry Whittington of Lenoir, and Randy Whittington and wife Gina of Chandler, NC; one brother, Cleveland "Buster" Whittington of Boone; two sisters, Sarah Bradshaw and husband CR of Granite Falls and Alice Flowers of Taylorsville, NC; three grandchildren April, Chase and Jason and by a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Linnie Frederick Whittington will be conduced Saturday, December 26, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Reggie Hunt and Rev. Morris Hatton. Burial will follow in the Clarissa Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, prior to the service from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
