Obituary of Fred C. Miller

Dr. Fred C. Miller, Jr., age 79, of Cecil Miller Road, Boone, died Thursday night December 10, 2009 at home. Born February 16, 1930 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Fred Cecil and Flossie Kate Church Miller. Dr. Miller was a graduate of Lees-McRae College, Appalachian State University and obtained his Doctorate in Dentistry from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He was a US Navy Veteran and served aboard the USS Boxer for one year and was in the Naval Reserve for seven years. Fred practiced dentistry for 43 years in Jonesville, NC, Boone, NC, west Jefferson, NC and Atlantic Beach and served as a Dentist of the hospital ship Hope. Dr. Miller volunteered his services as a Dentist in both Haiti and in the Ukraine. He served on the Board of Trustees for Appalachian State University for 12 years and was a former member of the Boone Rotary Club and the Daniel Boone Fish Club. Surviving are: his wife; Susie Day Milan Miller, dog and companion Freddie Miller, one daughter; Amanda Miller of Greensboro; two brothers; Bill Miller and wife Donna and Joe Miller and wife Lynda all of Boone; two step sons; Bob Milan and wife Kathy of Greensboro and Bill Milan and wife Faye of Mt. Airy; four step grandchildren; Craig Milan and wife Cindy of Harmony, Alexa Milan of Greensboro, Joy Mathis of Elkin, Lori Pendry and husband Andy of Elkin, and three step-great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and many close friends in Boone and Emerald Isle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Kate Miller and a son Julian Miller. Memorial services for Dr. Fred C. Miller, Jr. will be conducted SARURDAY, MAY 1, 2010 AT 3:00 PM at the High Country United Church of Christ. Officiating will be Rev. Shelly Wilson. The family will receive friends AT THE CHURCH AFTER SERVICES. The family would like to thank their neighbors and Appalachian students at Pine Ridge Condos, Hospice and their church family for their kindness and help during these past months.
