Obituary of William R. Hodges

Mr. William Robert Hodges, age 82, of Vilas, died Monday evening, November 23, 2009 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk. Born September 1, 1927, he was the son of the late Dallas Holland and Winifred Combs Hodges. Mr. Hodges proudly served in the United States Navy from May 1945 until July 1948. He worked for the Charlotte Observer Transportation Company for 18 years, and was a state highway inspector for the State of North Carolina for 20 years. Surviving are two daughters; Rebecca Greene and husband Elson of Boone, and Susan Hodges of Morganton, one son, William Robert �Robin� Hodges Jr. of Vilas, one son in law, Darell Winebarger of Zionville, four grandsons; John and Shawn Greene of Boone, Ed Winebarger and wife Lana of Vilas and David Winebarger of Zionville, six great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his wife of 61 years, Jeanne Banner Hodges an infant son, Everette Bruce Hodges and a sister, Ruth Hodges Williams. Funeral services for Mr. William Robert Hodges will be conducted Friday afternoon at 3 o�clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Mark Chaney. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service Friday afternoon from 2 until 3 o�clock. At other times friends may call at the home of Elson and Rebecca Greene at 1317 Chestnut Grove Road, Boone, NC. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor�s choice.
