Dr. H. Lawrence �Larry� Bond, age 73, of Hardin Road, Boone, died Tuesday afternoon, November 17, 2009 at his home. Born October 7, 1936 in Memphis, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Freeman and Virginia Martin Bond. Dr. Bond was a graduate of Duke University. He obtained both a Masters of Divinity and a Doctor of Philosophy. Dr. Bond was a professor of Renaissance History at Appalachian State University for thirty-seven years. He was the Pastor of the Linville Falls Community Church for twenty-six years, and was an ordained Elder in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Larry was a proud member of the American Cusanus Society, and one of the world�s foremost translators of ancient Latin texts. He spoke and wrote in thirteen different languages. Larry was a friend to the homeless and downtrodden, and went out of his way to notice people behind the scenes. He was an advocate for civil rights, and participated in, and was arrested during the lunch counter sit-ins in Greensboro during the 1960�s. Surviving are two daughters; Stephanie Bond White and husband Mike of Newland, and Julianna Wilson Bond of Boone, two grandchildren; Carter Michael White and Kylie Jean White of Newland, and an extended family, community of colleagues and his church family at Linville Falls Community Church. Funeral services for Dr. Larry Bond will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o�clock at the Linville Falls Community Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 until 2 o�clock. Burial will follow in the Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the Linville Falls Community Church Building Fund, Post Office Box 46, Linville, NC 28646 or to the Caring House, 2625 Pickett Road, Durham, NC 27705.
