Obituary of Mary Velma E. Henson

Mrs. Mary Velma Eggers Henson, age 83, of Bethel Road, Vilas, died Friday evening, November 6, 2009 at her home. She was born July 19, 1926 on Stone Mountain, Watauga County, North Carolina to the late Ralph and Polly Guy Eggers. Velma Henson was supervisor of food service for the Burton, Ohio School system. She retired after twenty-nine years with the school system. Velma was a Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent for twenty years at the Burton, Ohio Assembly of God Church. She also taught Sunday School in North Carolina for nineteen years at the Forest Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Henson worked as a volunteer for many civic, school and charity organizations in Burton, Ohio. In her later years, she became an integral part of the Bethel, Beaver Dam and Forest Grove Communities. Velma enjoyed gardening, canning and helping others. She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Walter Ned Henson, two sons; Bynum Ned Henson and wife Shirley of Brookville, Indiana, and Bill Edward Henson and wife Susan of Chardon, Ohio, three grandchildren; Emily Henson of Chardon, Ohio, Bynum Henson and wife Darcy of Fishers, Indiana, and Heidi Stamer and husband Soeren of San Francisco, California; two great grandchildren; Caroline Henson and Charles Henson of Fishers, Indiana, and one sister; Wilma Miller of Vilas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather; Robert Miller and two brothers; Bynum Eggers and Ralph Eggers. Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Velma Eggers Henson will be conducted Monday morning at 10 o'clock at Forest Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Carl Wilson and Rev. J. C. Greene. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.
