Mr. Andrew "Andy" Kirby, age 74, of Perkins Street, Boone, died Thursday evening October 15, 2009 at home. Born November 20, 1934 in Lenoir, he was a son of the late William Gamewell and Bertha Mae McRary Kirby. Andy attended Oak Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed working in his yard and garden. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation after 45 years as a bridge supervisor and was an US Army Veteran.
Surviving are his wife; Mary Ann Williams Kirby, one daughter; Tammy Kirby of Lebanon, Virginia, one son; Tim Kirby and wife Jenny of Zionville, two grandchildren; Colton and Cade Kirby of Zionville, three sisters; Mabel Austin of Granite Falls, Nancy Leach and husband Bob of Burlington, and Judy Wilson and husband Ralph of Hickory and two brothers; James "Bud" Kirby and wife Betty and Fred Kirby and wife Dot all of Granite Falls and one brother in law, Leonard Cline of Taylorsville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters; Willie "Shug" Williams, Ruth Cline, and Vera "Dot" Michaels and one brother; Gus "Bo" Kirby.
Funeral services for Mr. Andy Kirby will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Oak Grove Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Dennis Richards. The family will receive friends prior to the service from noon until 2.
Graveside services and burial will follow on Sunday at 3 o'clock at Temple Hill Baptist Church in Granite Falls. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3 at Temple Hill Baptist Church.
