Obituary of Jeanne B. Hodges

OCTOBER 12, 2009 Mrs. Jeanne (Jean) Banner Hodges, age 81, of Vilas, died Monday morning, October 12, 2009 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk. Born November 3, 1927 in Banner Elk, she was a daughter of the late Robert Otto and Geneva Lowe Banner. Mrs. Hodges was retired from Boone Drug Company where she worked as a salesperson. She is survived by; her husband of 61 years; William Robert Hodges; two daughters; Rebecca Greene and husband Elson of Boone and Susan Hodges of Morganton, one son; William Robert "Robin" Hodges, Jr., of Vilas; two sisters, Carlyne Lyerly and Thelma Tilley of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son; Everette Hodges; three sisters; Ruth Jennings, Mary Sue Dellinger, and Geneva Frye and three brothers; Robert, Fred and Edwin Banner. Funeral services for Mrs. Jeanne (Jean) Banner Hodges will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiated by Rev. Mark Chaney and Rev. Joe London. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 2 until 3 o'clock at the funeral home prior to the service.
