Obituary of John F. Williams

Dr. John Fox Williams died Friday October 9, 2009 at Brookstone Terrace Nursing Home in Clemmons, NC. He was a retired Professor of Mathematics at Appalachian State University for 24 years. He received two degrees in mathematics from the University of Tennessee and received a Doctorate in Mathematics Education from Columbia University. He taught at schools in Memphis, Charlotte, Long Island, New York and was a Sunday School teacher and an Army veteran of WWII in Europe, and served as an officer in Patton�s Army. He was born in Yuma, Colorado in 1922, but spent most of his youth in Andersonville, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents Lon T. and Hazel Kelly Williams and his twin brothers. Dr. Aaron J. Williams and Dr. Nathan B.Willians. He is survived by his wife of 63 years. Rose E. Williams, his five children, Rebecca Ibele and husband Charles, Dr. Margaret Golden and husband Steve, Joseph Williams and wife Sherry, Dr. John Williams and wife Dr. Joanie Williams, Susan Baumgardner and husband Mark, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Austin and Barnes Funeral Home in Boone Sunday evening from 5 until 7 o�clock, followed by a memorials service officiated by his grandson, Bobby Sass. Graveside services and burial will be conducted Monday morning at 10 o�clock at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens in Boone.
