September 5, 2009 Mrs. Phyllis Ann Hicks, age 61, of Slabtown Road, Zionville, died Friday evening, September 4, 2009 at Watauga Medical Center. Born July 29, 1948 in West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late William and Lillian Pater Mounts. Phyllis was of the Baptist faith, and was an excellent cook and homemaker. Surviving are: her husband Howard Ernest Hicks; one daughter; Shelia Arnold and husband Glenn of Mountain City; three sons; Scottie Moody of Wilkesboro; Dwight Moody and Keith Moody of Avery County; one step-daughter; Sherry Dollar of Todd; two step-sons; Glenn Hicks of Boone, and Michael Hicks of Sugar Grove; three sisters; Debbie Mullins of Mountain City, Kathy Earp of Boone, and Gail martin of West Virginia; six brothers; Thurman Mounts, Billy Mounts, and Eddie Mounts all of Thomasville, North Carolina, Danny Mounts of Asheboro, Matthew Mounts of Vilas and Roger Mounts of Mountain City, six grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews and friends and a special friend, Wanda Wimmer. Funeral services for Mrs. Phyllis Ann Hicks will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 1 o�clock at Vilas Valley Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from noon until 1 o�clock. Officiating will be Rev. Dan Church and Rev. Eric Cornett. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 o�clock until 8 o�clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. At other times friends may call at the Hicks residence on Slabtown Road or at the home of the daughter Shelia Arnold in Mountain City.
