Obituary of Riley Greene

Mr. John Riley Greene, age 85, of Mt. Zion Road, Deep Gap, the Stony Fork Community, died Sunday, August 16, 2009 morning at Glenbridge Health Care & Rehabilitation. Born June 13, 1924 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Judson Moore and Hettie Agnes Wellborn Greene. Mr. Greene was a WWII Navy Veteran having participated in the liberation of the Philippines. Riley was an active member of Stony Fork Baptist Church, having served as an active Deacon for fifty years. He was also a Sunday School Teacher and helped maintain the church grounds. He was a retired carpenter and farmer. Surviving are his wife of 65 years; Nina Miller Greene; two daughters; Judy Carter and husband Jim of Athens, GA, and Ruby Triplett and husband Kermit of Purlear, four sons; Darrell Greene and wife Audrey of Deep Gap, Harold Greene and wife Brenda of Fleetwood, Dana Greene and wife Vickie of Sugar Grove, and Sam Greene and wife Cynthia of Winston-Salem, two sisters; Bonita Stewart of Wilkesboro and Carolyn Austin of Boone; two brothers; Cline Greene and wife Katheryn of Fleetwood and Hershel Greene and wife Imogene of Deep Gap, ten grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Charles and Troy Greene. Funeral services for Mr. John Riley Greene will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1 o�clock at Stony Fork Baptist Church; the body will lie in state at the church from noon until 1 o�clock. Officiating will be Rev. Vernon Eller and Rev. Bill Warren. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Stony Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the Stony Fork Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, in care of Betty Triplett, 414 Stony Fork Road, Deep Gap, NC 28618. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 o�clock until 7:30 at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
