Lynn Isaacs, age 91, of Fletcher Branch Road, Vilas, died Sunday morning, July 5, 2009 at Watauga Medical Center. He was born February 3, 1918 in Watauga County to Willet Franklin and Flossie Greene Isaacs. Lynn was a graduate of Cove Creek High School, where he and his brother, Hoy, excelled in sports. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the 28th Infantry Division in the European Theater of operations. Mr. Isaacs participated in the Normandy and Northern France Rhineland Campaigns, and was awarded the ETO Ribbon with three battle stars, the Good Conduct Metal, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. The Purple Heart was given for wounds received as the result of enemy action on September 20, 1944, in the Wallendorf, Germany area. He retired from the IRC Corporation in Boone, and was a member of Henson Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Isaacs is survived by; his wife, Lavola Brown Isaacs; and a sister-in-law, Lennis Brown Wilson, of Vilas. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sandra Isaacs of Reidsville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Hoy Isaacs and a brother-in-law, James Wilson. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o�clock at Henson Chapel United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Judy Eurey and Dr. Avery Owenby. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 1 until 2 o�clock, prior to services, at the Henson Chapel Church Fellowship Hall. Entombment will follow in the Rose Chapel II Mausoleum at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens in Boone.
