Obituary of Jerry Adams

Jerry Adams, age 83, of Swift Lane, Sugar Grove, died Thursday morning, July 2, 2009 at Watauga Medical Center. He was born April 26, 1926 in Watauga County to Solomon and Virgie Cornett Adams. Jerry was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Choir member, and for many years as Chairman of the Cove Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Committee. For more than 50 years, he was an insurance agent in Watauga County. Mr. Adams served on the Board of Directors and was actively involved in the North Carolina State Grange. He was named Director Emeritus of the North Carolina Mutual Insurance Company. Mr. Adams was actively involved in the Cove Creek Preservation & Development. Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by; his wife, Carolyn Hagaman Adams; and one brother, Dale D. Adams and wife, Earlena, of Sugar Grove. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Grigg, Reba Bingham and infant Beulah Jean Adams. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 3 o�clock at Cove Creek Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Max Gessner. The body will lie in state at the church from 2 until 3 o�clock. Burial will follow in the Cove Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
