Obituary of Pansy G. Taylor

Pansy Greene Taylor, age 91 of Purlear died June 1, 2009, at the Villages of Wilkes Skilled Care where she had resided for the past year and a half. She was born in Wilkes County on August 22, 1917, to Boyd and Minnie Wagner Greene. After graduation from Mount Pleasant High School and Mae�s Beauty School, she worked as a beautician until her marriage when she and her husband moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She and her family returned to Purlear, NC in 1956, where she operated Pansy�s Beauty Shop until failing health forced her retirement at age 89. At that time she was the oldest working beautician in North Carolina and still charged 1940 prices for her work. It was not unusual for her to serve a complimentary lunch on a tray, to customers while they sat under a hair dryer. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and a friend to all. Surviving are three children: two daughters: Marguerite Taylor Moore and husband Kenneth of Altamonte Springs, Florida and Jefferson, NC; Betty Ann Taylor Millman and husband David of Greensboro; and one son, Richard Lee Taylor and wife Elisia of Purlear. Mrs. Taylor is also survived by three sisters: Violet Greene Hagaman, Daisy Greene Hagaman and Fern Greene Handy and by one brother, Bob Richard Greene; by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Edgar Taylor, a son, Robert, who died in infancy and by three brothers: Yatsa Greene, Newland Greene and Raytee Greene. Services for Mrs. Pansy Greene Taylor will be conducted Friday afternoon at 3 o�clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Vernon Eller. The family will receive friends from 2 o�clock until 3 o�clock prior to the service and burial will follow at Mt. Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.
