May 15, 2009 Mrs. Rena Farthing Graybeal, age 91, of Shadowline Drive, died Thursday evening, May 14, 2009 at Cannon Memorial Hospital. Born June 28, 1917 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late William Dudley and Beulah Edmisten Farthing. Mrs. Graybeal was a member of the First Baptist Church. Rena was an elementary school teacher for 34 years, having taught mostly in Ashe County. She also helped found the Head Start Program. Surviving are; two daughters; Patricia Tutterow and husband Keith of Newland, and Shirley Barker of Wildwood, Florida, four sisters in law; Virginia Farthing of Wilkesboro, Grace Triplett of Dalton, Georgia, Pearl Snyder of Gray, Tennessee and Jennie Graybeal of Pennsylvania, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Thomas Graybeal, three sisters; Elsie Morgan, Frieda Sasser, and Dorothy Parker and three brothers; Charles, James, and Ralph Farthing Memorial services for Mrs. Rena Farthing Graybeal will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o�clock at the First Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Keith Tutterow, Rev. Jim Barker, Rev. Darrell Graybeal and Dr. George Miles. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday afternoon prior to the service from 1 until 2 o�clock at the church. Memorials for Mrs. Graybeal may be made to missions. Steven Allen, a great-nephew serves in Swaziland in Africa, memorials for his mission should be sent to; Big Laurel Church of Christ & Christian Union, in care of Glenda Allen, 468 Roundabout Road, Creston, NC 28615. Wendy Slentz, a granddaughter in Wilkesboro is involved in a mission project in Kenya, memorials may be sent to Kenya Partners-Nakura, 1815 Brunswick court, High Point, NC 27262.
