Mrs. Edna Jean Ennis Gray, age 81, of 163 Shadowline Drive, Boone, and a former resident of Lincolnton, died Monday morning, April 27, 2009 at Watauga Medical Center. Born May 1, 1927 in Johnston County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late John Festus and Bertie Corina Nordan Ennis. Mrs. Gray was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lincolnton and was a homemaker.
Surviving are three children; Bruce R. Gray, Jr. and wife Mary Ann of Louisville, Kentucky, Patty Buckner and husband Will of Vilas, and Tom Gray and wife Missie of Bloomsdale, Missouri, six grandchildren; Ashley Jones, Janessa Mason, Danielle Cullen, Mary Cullen, Elizabeth Cullen, Lindsey Gray and Abbey Gray, two great grandsons; Cooper and Carson Jones, one brother; William "Bill" Ennis of Lillington one sister and brother in law; Nancy and Earl Powell of Durham and a number of loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bruce R. Gray, Sr. one daughter; Debbie Jean Mason, four sisters; Nellie Smith, Kathleen Lee, Josephine Rose, and Olene Ennis, and five brothers; Ernest, Jack, Buddy, Tom and William Charleston Ennis.
Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Gray will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Reggie Hunt and Pastor Wes Berry. Graveside services and burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Lincolnton, North Carolina at 3:30. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, in care of Glenda Hodges, 810 Parkcrest Drive, Boone, NC 28607 or to the American Heart Association, Post Office Box 5216, Glen Allen, Virginia 23058-5216.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 o'clock until 7:30 at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
