Obituary of Carl D. Tuttle

Mr. Carl D. Tuttle, age 80, of Tuttle Road, Fleetwood, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018 at his home. Born November 17, 1937 in Knott County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Thomas and Elsie Moore Tuttle. Carl was the former Health Director for the Appalachian District Health Department. He obtained his Master of Public Health from UNC-Chapel Hill. Carl was instrumental in obtaining grants to fund department projects. During his career he was recognized as Health Director of The Year. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Fleetwood, where he served as a Sunday School teacher. He had also served on the Board of Directors for Hospice and was a member of Gideons International. Carl enjoyed fishing, golf, a good game of cards and Kentucky basketball. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Tuttle, one son, David Matthew Tuttle of Fleetwood, one daughter, Marta Nilsen and husband Richard of Tarpon Springs, Florida, and five grandchildren, Robyn Clark, Jolie Tuttle, Natalie Nilsen, Genesis Nilsen and Paradise Nilsen, and a number of nieces and nephews. Services for Carl Tuttle will be announced at a later date. MEMORIAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 2:00 PM ON SATURDAY, JUNE 15, 2019, AT EMMANUEL BAPTIST CHURCH (HIGHWAY 221 SOUTH, DEEP GAP, NC).
