Obituary of Dennis Edsel Wood

Dennis Edsel Wood, age 80, of Howard Edmisten Road, Sugar Grove, passed away Friday afternoon, July 20, 2018 at his home. Dennis, a Watauga native son and U.S. Army veteran, loved his God, his family and friends, and the outdoors. He taught family the value and power of love, hard work, and a persons word of honor. He brought laughter into our lives. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Allie Wood, brothers, Alfred and Joe Wood, sister, Ida Ward, and niece, Kay Ward. Dennis is survived by his wife, Ann Wood; sons, John Wood of Lenoir and Eric Wood of Sugar Grove; daughter and grandson, Becky and Michael Wood of Boone; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Wood and Shirley Wood, both of Mountain City, TN; and 11 nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Dennis Wood will be conducted Sunday afternoon, July 22, 2018 at 2 oclock at Willow Valley Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Ray Green. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1 until 2 oclock, prior to services, at the church. Military graveside honors provided by the American Legion Post 130 will follow at the Old St. Johns Episcopal Church Cemetery. Flowers and food will be accepted by the family.
