Chester Elmer Whittle, Jr. of 464 Holiday Hills, Boone, NC, beloved Father, husband, Grandfather, friend and attorney, passed away June 18 at Watauga Medical Center. He was born September 21, 1943, in Orlando, Florida to the late Margaret Sullivan Whittle of Savannah, Georgia and Chester E. Whittle of Sarasota, Florida. Chester was a graduate of Davidson and earned his law degree from the University of Florida in 1967. He practiced in Miami and Boone. He was licensed in North Carolina in 1981 where he has been since. Chester was a Captain in the US Army, an Intelligence Officer working in the Phoenix program and Commander of MP Company in Vietnam during 1969 and 1970. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Whittle, his nephew, Butch Waller and his brother-in-law, Joe Robinson. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Robinson, one brother, Christopher Whittle of Pawleys Island, SC, son, James Whittle of Asheville, two daughters, Gracie Whittle OLoughlin of Vilas and Cristen Whittle of Asheville, two grandchildren, Rivers Whittle and Cecelia Whittle of Asheville. In-laws include Sean OLoughlin of Vilas, Margaret Whittle of Pawleys Island, Jan Whittle of Winston-Salem, Tera Broughton of Asheville, Sheila Robinson of Newton and Larry and Frances Hollar of Newton. His nieces and nephews include Christopher Whittle of Columbia, SC, Scott and Sharon Whittle of Charlotte, Susan Waller of Highlands, Spencer and Beth Whittle of Winston-Salem, Joe and Karin Phillips of Charlotte, Charles and Julie Hollar of Charlotte, Nicholas and Amber Hahn of Atlanta, Georgia and Doctors Larry and Carlin Hollar of Winston-Salem. Chester loved God, spending time in Key West and at Lake Watauga, teaching Sunday School at Sugar Grove Baptist Church. He adored his pets, reading and will be missed by all who knew him. The funeral will be held 3 pm. Friday, June 22 at Boone United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 until 3 PM.
