Joyce Beatrice Brewer Roberson Buchanan, age 92, of Wes Brewer Road, Newland, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018, while under the care of Life Care of Banner Elk and Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. Born on April 24, 1926, to the late Wesley N. Brewer and Zona W. Brewer, Joyce was a graduate of Newland High School and graduated from Elizabethton Business College of Elizabethton, Tennessee. Though she spent most of her active years at home caring for her family, she worked at several varied occupations including, Kresss Store of Johnson City, A & P Foods of Charlotte, North Carolina and cooking for several Linville Resorts, Inc., summer residents. One of her most notable occupations were her years at Glen Raven Hosiery Plant of Newland, where she was one of their highest performing knitters. Joyce was well known for her exceptional cooking and sewing skills and could put any food together from scratch, often refining established recipes. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her first Husband, James William Roberson of Elizabethton, Tennessee (died 1956); second Husband of 26 years, Stewart Buchanan of Newland (died 1986); and her Eldest Son, Samuel Joe Roberson, Sr., of Newland (died 2005). Two Brothers, Ernest Brewer, Ray Brewer and Sister, Marie Brewer Mottern. Joyce is survived by Son, James Don Roberson (Deborah) of Newland; Grandchildren, James Martin Roberson (and girlfriend Sabrina Wise) of Newland; Jennifer Leigh Roberson of Newland; Kevin Lance Roberson (Amber) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; Great Grandchildren, Joshua David Roberson of Cornelius, North Carolina and Levi Aaron Roberson of Folly Beach, South Carolina. Grandson, Samuel Joe Sammy Roberson, Jr., of Dallas, Texas. Son, Larry Wayne Roberson (Leslie) of Simpsonville, South Carolina; Grandchildren, Robert D. Roberson (Claire) of United States Army Washington State; and Wesley Andrew Roberson of United States Army Louisiana. Stepson, Gary Buchanan (Loretta) of Newland. Sister, Jane Isenhour of Newland. Joyce is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other extended family members. A Memorial and Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 3:00 p.m., at the Morganton Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2187 Jamestown Road, Morganton, North Carolina, 28655. The family will receive friends at the Church from 1:30 p.m., until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will be in the Daniels Cemetery in Newland, North Carolina.
