Obituary of Nettie B. Oaks

Mrs. Nettie Barnes Oaks, age 55, of Laurel Bloomery, TN and formerly of Sugar Grove, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 26, 2018 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. Born November 26, 1962 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Katie Glenn Barnes. Nettie was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Ira Oaks, two daughters, Betty Matheson and Greg Treadway, and Melissa Oaks and Mickey Price, two sons, Charlie Oaks and Ira Oaks, Jr., both of Mountain City, five grandchildren, Mason and Dakota Matheson, Aby Davis, Levi Price and Jacob Oaks, two step grandchildren, Jacob and Tiffany Treadway, two brothers, J.C. Barnes and George Barnes, and two sisters-in-law, Julie and Pat Barnes all of Sugar Grove. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Barnes. Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie Oaks will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel officiated by Rev. Anthony Roark and Rev. Daniel Lawrence. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., prior to services, at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Ward Cemetery (in Sugar Grove). In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family to help offset expenses.
