Hugh B. Hagaman, Sr., 89, of Boone, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation. Born January 22, 1924 in Boone, he was a son of Smith and Stella McCartney Hagaman. He formerly owned and managed Trailway Dry Cleaners, and served as an assistant manager of the ASU Bookstore. Mr. Hagaman served in the US Marine Corp during WWII and the Korean War, before graduating from Duke University. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Boone, a past president of the Boone Rotary Club, and a past chairman of the Watauga County Board of Education. Mr. Hagaman is survived his daughter, Mackie Hagaman and husband, Harvard Ayers, of Boone; daughter-in-law, Wendy Hagaman, and grandchildren, Holly Jean and Casey John Hagaman, and great-granddaughter, Emerson Skylar Hagaman, all of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; and his brother, Mack Hagaman and wife, Vicki, of Winston-Salem. A number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Kimel Hagaman, son, Hugh �Buzz� Hagaman, Jr.; brother, Len Hagaman; and sisters, Elsie Hagaman, Ruth McConnell, Crete Swift, Mamie Hagaman, and Jewell Mast. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 11 AM at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will be private. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 7:30 at Austin & Barnes.
