Mr. Lee Roy McGuire, age 100, of Wilson, NC passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 in Wilson. Born June 12, 1917 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late William Richard and Lou Wright McGuire. Lee was the last surviving of fourteen children. He served his country with honor and pride during WWII, serving in the Asian Theatre and the occupational force in Germany following the war. After retirement from the Air Force, he continued to serve his country though a second career at the Library of Congress, retiring as a Lieutenant in the police force.
Lee is survived by his daughter, Sylvia McGuire Tucker of Wilson, and three sons, Richard McGuire of Elm City, Leonard McGuire of Palm Springs, California and David McGuire and wife Susan of Annandale, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Annie Louiza McGuire.
Funeral services for Mr. Lee Roy McGuire will be conducted Saturday afternoon, April 28, 2018 at 3 PM at Austin& Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Military graveside honors and burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 until 3 PM at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
