Obituary of Northa West

Mrs. Northa Viola Colvard West, age 99, of Boone, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at her home. Born April 10, 1918 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Onnie Hayes Colvard. Mrs. West was a homemaker and a member of Sandy Flat Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens. Northa also made quilts which she shared with her family and friends. She is survived by three daughters, Margaret Moody and husband Paul of Blowing Rock, Mary Church and husband Roger of Foscoe, and Faye Moody and husband John of Boone, four sons, Rev. Max West and wife Barbara of Boone, Jerry West, Sr., and wife Janie of Clinton, MD, James West of Foscoe and Danny West and wife Pamela of Boone, sixteen grandchildren, Michael Moody, Eddie Moody, Debbie Miller, Delores Church, Denise Stahl, Jackie Blowen, Marsha West, Maurice West, Robin Greene, Jerry West, Jr., Jennifer Sullivan, Donna Adcock, Corey West, Zachary West and Laurel West, 16 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, 3 step great-great grandchildren and 2 great-great-great grandchildren, one sister, Hazel Colvard Aldridge of Boone and one brother, Carl Colvard of Conway, SC, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clynard Luther West, one daughter, Betty West Adcock, one grandson, Danny Church, one sister, Mary Colvard Triplett, and five brothers, Edward Colvard, Henry Colvard, Junior Colvard, Howard Colvard and Bobby Colvard. Funeral services for Mrs. Northa West will be conducted Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 3 PM at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday prior to the service from 1 PM until 3 at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
