Obituary of David L. Shook

David Lee Shook, age 76 of The Foscoe Community, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018. He was the son of the late Jeffrey and Beulah Tester Shook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Townsend, Margaret Adams, Evelyn Johnson and special nephew Caleb Johnson. David loved serving the community. He was a member and deacon of the Watauga Baptist Church. He served on the Foscoe Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors since its inception in 1971. He was also a member of the Foscoe Ruritan Club. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Shook, two sons, Mike Shook and wife Brenda, and Mark Shook and his wife Amy. Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Norwood of Banner Elk and Mary Helen Brown of Morganton. Three grandchildren, Mason, Alexis and Jeffrey Shook. Dave is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, including his special nephew Seth Johnson. Funeral services for David Lee Shook will be conducted Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Watauga Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening, February 2, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
