Obituary of Mattie Shull Rominger

Mattie Shull Rominger, age 96, of Hwy 321 North, Sugar Grove, passed away January 23, 2018 at The Foley Center. Born January 14, 1922 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of Luther Jordan and Callie Matheson Shull. For more than 50 years, Mrs. Rominger was a faithful and dedicated member of Willow Valley Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for at least 40 years and also was an active member of the choir. She loved her family and friends dearly and so enjoyed quilting and growing her many flower gardens. Mrs. Rominger is survived by her son-in-law, Frank Guy of Sugar Grove; grandson, Michael Wheeler of Chesapeake, VA, granddaughter, Kathy Smart and husband, Bruce, of Connelly Springs; great grandsons, Richie Smith and wife, Kara, of Vilas, Lucas Wheeler and wife Katie, Josh Wheeler and Samuel Wheeler, all of Chesapeake, VA; great-great grandchildren, Annabelle Wheeler, Logan, Mason and Holden Smith and Finn Wheeler; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilborn Jessie Rominger; daughters, Shirley Guy and Shelby Dishman; son, Harold Dean Rominger; grandson, Stephen Wheeler; son-in-law, Doby Dishman; and four sisters and six brothers. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, January 27th, at 2 oclock at Willow Valley Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Ray Greene. The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until 2 oclock, prior to services, at the Church. Graveside services will follow at the Piney Grove Community Cemetery in Sugar Grove. The family respectfully requests no food.
